Storytale Festival and Big Book Weekend

Storytale Festival and The Big Book Weekend
Kate Frost

After a last-minute scrabble late on a Friday evening in April, Storytale’s Ellie and Kate managed to submit an application with three events (that would have been a part of this year’s festival) to the Big Book Weekend.

Co-founded by authors Kit de Waal and Molly Flatt, the Big Book Weekend, with the support of the BBC and Arts Council England, was brought to life to showcase the best of the British literary festivals that got cancelled due to Covid-19.

Storytale’s last minute submission paid off because Uh Oh Books “Uh-Oh!” Said Flo event was chosen. Rachel and Sam from Uh Oh Books were part of our first festival and would have been returning this year. With little time to prepare they had a Zoom call with MyVLF (the virtual lit fest platform that was hosting BBW), to record their interactive storytelling session about climate change, plastic pollution and Flo the turtle.

Big Book Weekend took place on the 8th – 10th May 2020 and had a stellar line-up of literary stars including Maggie O’Farrell, Alexander McCall Smith, Neil Gaiman, and Marian Keyes. In the children’s slots, Storytale’s very own Uh Oh Books were in great company appearing alongside Jill Calder, Will Millard and Michael Morpurgo.

If you’d like to watch Uh Oh Books’ interactive storytelling session you can here (below). Enjoy!
