The Housetrap: When the door closes… the game begins!

October 23 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm BST

Join Emma Read for a whistle stop tour of the history of telling spooky stories and learn why we sometimes like to be scared. Do you have what it takes to escape The Housetrap by solving a series of puzzles?

The Event

Join Emma Read inside The Housetrap where she will take you on a whistle stop tour of the history of telling spooky stories. From the Brothers Grimm to Frankenstein, from Scooby-doo to Goosebumps, learn why we sometimes like to be scared, and how dark stories can help us face real-world fears in a safe environment.

Explore some ‘real’ ghost stories; do you believe in ghosts, like Claude in the book, or are you a sceptic like Deliah? Pick a team and go head-to-head to decide whether you think they are hauntings, or is there a logical explanation? You decide!

Then, find out if you’ve got what it takes to escape The Housetrap, by solving a series of puzzles.

Emma Read is a children’s author, creative writing tutor, editor and mentor. Her Milton the Mighty books for ages 7+ explore the themes of phobias, social media and bravery. Emma’s latest novel for 9 – 12 year olds, The Housetrap, has been described as Scooby-Doo meets The Mysterious Benedict Society via Escape Room.

Book info

An edge-of-your-seat adventure packed full of puzzles, spooks and mystery!

When Claude’s little sister, Amity, runs off in forbidden Badwell Woods – where children disappear – Deliah, Sam and Claude follow her to a mysterious mansion. Inside, time has frozen in the 1930s and an invitation promises a devious party game.

Not long after they find a terrified Amity, hiding from ‘ghosts’, the floor beneath their feet starts to twist and turn: the rooms are changing places. The house has rearranged itself like a giant Rubik’s cube.

To escape, they must solve the puzzle – and the century-old mystery of a girl who disappeared …
