Founder of the Storytale Festival – the inspiring individual who brought a fantastic group of people together to help her make the festival a reality.

Co-founder & Event Host

Co-founder of the Storytale Festival and author of time travel adventure trilogy Time Shifters – intended to run just one creative writing workshop for children at Storysmith and somehow ended up co-organising the festival!


Nicola Fleming

Brand Identity & Design

Owner of Grounded Cloud: branding, print and digital design specialists. Grounded Cloud sponsored the Storytale Festival with brand naming, brand identity creation, design for printed materials and website design.

Jenny Farrington

Storytale Festival Copywriter

Freelance Creative Copywriter – involved at the beginning of the Storytale journey. Came up with the festival’s strapline and tone of voice, then wrote the copy for the website and advertising materials.


Katy Hensen

Social Media Advertising & Management

Facebook & Instragram ads strategist and social media manager – supported Storytale Festival with social media presence. Katy works across a wide range of industries but has particular experience of working in promoting events, the cultural sector and with authors.

Teller of tall tales from The Wild of the Words – ran two interactive storytelling sessions with a mix of folktales, sensory adventure, and collaborative tale telling.

Children’s book author – ran the Fantastic Ideas and Where to Find Them writing workshop for 7 to 11 year olds.

Gill Simmons

Brave Bold Drama is a theatre and community arts organisation that runs Creative Workspace in Withywood, South Bristol. Brave Bold Drama hosted three storytelling workshops for the festival.

Owner of Book Island: publishers of picture books from around the world – organised the Picture Book Trail on Gloucester Road.


Ingrid Skeels

Event Host

Author – ran a session where she read an extract from her book St Cuthbert’s Wild School for Boys, then led a discussion about learning, play, nature, and the wild.

Storyteller with popular YouTube channel Jenny the Story Lady – ran two interactive storytelling events.


Justin Anderson

Event Host

Author of Snow Leopard: Grey Ghost of the Mountain – hosted an interactive ‘meet the author’ session.


Laura Humpage

Event Host

Owner of Colourful Minds – ran a term of her art workshops with books curated by Storytale Festival and craft projects created by Colourful Minds.

UWE senior lecturer and network lead at Curiosity Connections Bristol: the network for inspirational primary STEM education in the Bristol region. Curiosity Connections Bristol brought together curious children with stereotype-busting scientists and engineers from around Bristol, who told science themed stories to them.


Layla Gatens

Event Host

Spike Island hosted a special Storytale edition of Baby Art Hour – a monthly session for under fives and their carers, led by artist Éilis Kirby. Spike Island is a public space where people can discover and connect with art. It’s home to a community of over 70 artists and creative businesses.


Mimi Thebo

Event Host

Creative Writing at the University of Bristol was happy to sponsor the Wild Writing with Anna Wilson, Chris Vick and Mimi Thebo event about wild books for wild readers, with writers who spend time in the great outdoors. Creative Writing at Bristol uses practice-based research to look at some of the major themes of our time, for readers of all ages. Good writing can encourage young people to get involved with (and perhaps attempt to protect) the natural world.

Author and illustrator – ran an interactive stortelling session based on her book series, Jasper and Scruff.


Paula Bowles

Event Host

Children’s book illustrator – hosted Superkitty storytelling and craft event.

Bristol-based Philtone Litho, are market leaders in providing intelligent print solutions. Philtone sponsored the Storytale Festival by printing posters and bookmarks.


Sean Julian

Event Host

Illustrator – delivered a talk on The Picture Book Process, a whistle stop tour on how to design and illustrate a picture book.


Tracy Darnton

Event Host

Author of The Truth About Lies – hosted the Thriller vs Horror workshop with Gabriel Dylan, author of Whiteout
